The National Board of Revenue (NBR) clarified that certain motor vehicle owners, including government entities, diplomats, and educational institutions, are exempt from paying advance tax on registration or fitness renewal. This exemption extends to city corporations, development projects, and diplomatic missions, among others. The clarification aims to address confusion at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) regarding the collection of Advance Income Tax (AIT) from government-owned vehicles. Additionally, the NBR has waived the requirement for tax exemption certificates for vehicles used for charity purposes in the tax year 2023-24.
