Production at two units of Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj power plant has been partially halted due to dirt clogging the water supply pipeline following a storm. This interruption has disrupted an estimated 300 MW of power supply in the national grid. However, power plant authorities anticipate production to resume tonight. The power plant operates six units, but the steam turbines of two combined cycle power plants, with a capacity of 450 MW, rely on water from the Meghna River via a pipeline. Dirt ingress during the storm led to the shutdown of the north and south steam turbine sections. These units can supply 700 MW, but currently, only 400 MW of electricity is being produced. Repairs are underway to restore production to full capacity.
