The adoption of the Document Verification System (DVS) in Bangladesh has increased significantly, enhancing the authenticity of audit reports and curbing fraudulent practices. In 2021-22, the number of audit reports verified by the DVS rose by nearly 2%, totaling 38,316 reports. The DVS, developed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) in collaboration with the National Board of Revenue (NBR), ensures verified financial statements accompany tax returns. The DVC, an 18-digit code generated by ICAB members, validates financial data authenticity. While allegations of delays in DVC issuance persist, ICAB emphasizes the system’s efficiency, urging proper utilization by regulators and agencies. Despite challenges, the DVS aims to bolster tax collection, transparency, and lending credibility, promoting business integrity and regulatory compliance.
