Bangladesh and the UK held their first Joint Working Group meeting on Home Affairs in London, signing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on the return of Bangladeshi overstayers. This new agreement follows the previous Bangladesh-EU SOPs of 2017, adapted post-Brexit. The meeting, attended by high-level officials from both countries, reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to combat irregular migration. The number of undocumented Bangladeshis in the UK is currently minimal, and Bangladesh does not rank among the top ten countries with the highest number of undocumented nationals in the UK. Discussions also covered opportunities for skilled migration, mutual legal assistance, extradition, transnational crimes, counter-terrorism, and capacity building for Bangladeshi law enforcement. Senior officials from Bangladesh’s Home Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Police, and Special Branch, along with representatives from the Bangladesh High Commission in London, participated in the meeting.
