Bangladesh and the UK strengthened economic ties through trade and investment discussions in London from March 10-13, focusing on education, aviation, and renewable energy. UK Investment Minister Baroness Gustafsson and BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury explored expanding foreign direct investment (FDI) and bilateral business cooperation. Meetings with UK officials, HSBC, Airbus, Dewhirst Group, and Menzies emphasized industrial development, advanced technology, and infrastructure projects. Bangladesh highlighted its strategic role as an Indo-Pacific production hub and its $2.9 billion FDI stock from the UK as of FY 2023-24. Chowdhury also engaged with University of London and SOAS to foster academic collaborations and youth empowerment. The UK remains Bangladesh’s top FDI source, reaffirming its commitment to improving the investment climate. These engagements aim to drive long-term economic growth through strengthened trade, education, and business partnerships.
