Foreign aid to Bangladesh has slowed, as key Asian development partners—China, India, and the AIIB—adopt a cautious stance towards the interim government formed after the August-5 student uprising. During July-October FY2024-25, China provided no funds, AIIB disbursed $6.63 million, and India released $63.83 million. This delay has hindered the implementation of numerous projects, though multilateral partners like the World Bank, ADB, and Japan have maintained steady support, contributing $1.20 billion in loans and grants. The Economic Relations Division (ERD) aims to secure $2.24 billion from Asian partners and $10.82 billion overall this fiscal year. Officials remain optimistic about stronger aid inflows in the second half of FY2025, following increased engagement with major donors.
