Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Policy Exchange of Bangladesh, with support from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, are set to launch a regular Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) to assess Bangladesh’s economic conditions.
Monthly surveys involving over 500 private sector enterprises in key sectors will contribute to the PMI, covering areas like agriculture, construction, manufacturing, and services. The PMI, ranging from 0 to 100, indicates economic expansion (above 50), contraction (below 50), or stability (at 50). This initiative aims to offer early insights into the business cycle, aiding decision-making for government, financial institutions, corporations, investors, and analysts.
