Bangladesh To Import 3 Spot LNG Cargoes By Mid May

Industry: Energy & Power, LNG
Company: Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL)

Bangladesh’s state-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) has invited bids to import three spot LNG cargoes—each around 3.36 million MMBtu—for delivery on May 1–2, May 10–11, and May 16–17, amid rising summer energy demand. The bid deadline for the mid-May cargo is April 6, with deliveries planned via the country’s two FSRUs at Moheshkhali island. Bangladesh previously secured four spot cargoes each in March and April, with the latest April 23–24 delivery awarded to TotalEnergies at $14.42 per MMBtu. The country may seek more LNG in late May as temperatures climb. Due to falling domestic gas output, now at 2,030 mmcfd (a 29.5% weekly drop), including 765 mmcfd re-gasified LNG, the government has been rationing supply to industries and power plants. The Bibiyana gas field’s 60-hour maintenance, alongside a heatwave sweeping key districts, is compounding the energy crisis. Bangladesh also sources LNG under long-term deals with Qatar Energy and OQ Trading.
