The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen the bank accounts of Shuchona Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the daughter of a former prime minister, on November 21. The accounts will remain frozen for 30 days, with an option for extension if needed. Banks have been directed to provide updated details of the foundation’s accounts within five working days. The action follows allegations of suspicious transactions linked to the organization.
Established in 2014, Shuchona Foundation focuses on supporting individuals with mental and neurological disabilities, autism, and mental health challenges. Three trustees oversee its operations. The freezing of accounts underscores the increasing scrutiny of non-profit organizations amid financial transparency concerns, reflecting broader efforts by the anti-money laundering agency to monitor and address irregularities in financial transactions.
