Banks in Bangladesh reduced their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spending by 12.46% in the first half of 2024, totaling Tk309 crore, as per a Bangladesh Bank report. Significant cuts occurred in education, health, and environmental initiatives, with climate-related projects seeing a nearly 50% reduction. Education received Tk63 crore, health Tk71.98 crore, and environmental efforts Tk7 crore, while disaster management and infrastructure accounted for Tk166 crore (53.76%). Eight banks did not spend on CSR, with Premier Bank leading at Tk46 crore. Private banks contributed 96% of the total, while state-owned banks provided only 1%.
