Banks have disbursed Tk 19,215 crore in agricultural and rural credit, achieving 50.57% of the target set by Bangladesh Bank for FY2024-25, which is Tk 38,000 crore. However, some banks are underperforming, with Padma Bank and Woori Bank failing to disburse any loans, while Madhumoti Bank, Union Bank, and HSBC have disbursed less than 10% of their targets. Specifically, Union Bank has disbursed only Tk 4.89 crore out of its Tk 100 crore target. In addition to agricultural credit, banks have provided Tk 1,715 crore (14.33%) for fisheries, Tk 4,664 crore (12.27%) for livestock, Tk 7.31 crore for poverty alleviation, Tk 9,101 crore for the crop sector, and Tk 2,910 crore for fish farming. The government mandates that banks allocate at least 2% of total loans to agriculture, with penalties for non-compliance.
