In the first ten months of FY24, banks disbursed Tk 30,104 crore in agricultural loans, achieving 86% of the annual target of Tk 35,000 crore. This target represents a 13.6% increase from the previous fiscal year. Loan recoveries reached Tk 28,949 crore, marking a 7.66% year-on-year increase.
The outstanding balance, including interest, stood at Tk 56,487 crore, a 9.35% rise from the previous year. However, overdue agricultural credit surged by 43.83% to Tk 9,994.9 crore by April 2024. State-owned and specialized banks aimed to disburse Tk 12,030 crore, while private and foreign banks targeted Tk 22,970 crore.
Sector-wise, 45% of the loans went to crops, 24% to livestock and poultry, 15% to fisheries, 10% to other areas, and 6% to poverty alleviation. Grameen Bank and large NGOs disbursed Tk 12,584.73 crore in microcredit and recovered Tk 15,030.21 crore in April 2024.
