Bangladesh Bank has authorized banks to provide loans up to Tk 10 lakh to non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) working abroad during emergencies. These loans, based on banker-customer relationships, are available to NRBs who regularly send remittances through formal channels. Repayment must come from future remittances, ensuring the loans are tied to foreign exchange inflows. Loans exceeding Tk 10 lakh require central bank approval. This move aims to encourage formal remittance channels and stabilize foreign currency inflows, which surged 80% year-on-year to $2.40 billion in September.
