The Bangladesh Bank has announced its plans to launch a taka-rupee debit card in September, allowing travelers to make payments in both Bangladesh and India. The card will enable individuals to make local payments in Bangladeshi taka and settle payments in Indian rupees when traveling to India. This initiative aims to provide convenience to users by facilitating various payments within Bangladesh using taka, while also reducing the need for money exchange when visiting India. The taka-rupee debit card will be issued by banks and financial institutions in Bangladesh, and it is expected to streamline payment processes for tourists visiting India. This initiative will be align with the monetary policy statement for the July-December period of the financial year 2023-24.
