The Bangladesh Bank has announced it will not offer any financial incentives to businesses to offset losses from the recent curfew and general holidays amid the violence surrounding the Student Movement Against Discrimination. Despite requests from trade bodies for concessions similar to those provided during the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war, the central bank stated that businesses must repay their loans on time. Deputy Governor Kazi Sayedur Rahman emphasized the need to address the economy’s challenges without further concessions, highlighting a renewed focus on tackling corruption and irregularities within the financial sector under the new all-party government.
