Bangladesh Bank will release redesigned banknotes before Eid-ul-Azha 2025, featuring cultural and historical themes instead of full human portraits. The Tk20 note with images of Kantajiu and Buddhist temples will be issued on May 22. The Tk50 note, showcasing Zainul Abedin’s famine painting and Atia Mosque, will follow on May 29 or 30. The Tk1000 note, depicting Bangabhaban and the National Martyrs’ Memorial, is scheduled for release on June 2. The Tk5 note, delayed due to paper supply issues from Europe, will be released after Eid and feature Abu Sayeed and Mugdha. Other notes include the Tk10 (youth unity, Baitul Mukarram), Tk100 (Sundarbans wildlife), Tk200 (symbols of religious diversity), and Tk500 (Ahsan Manzil). No new note will carry Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait. This redesign process, involving international collaboration, typically takes 5–7 months. The last new banknote, Tk200, was introduced in 2020, while the Tk1000 note was launched in 2009.
