The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has identified 1.22 crore economic enterprises nationwide, comprising 66.22 lakh business establishments and 56.8 lakh agricultural economic households, as part of the fourth economic census. Scheduled from December 10 to 26, this Tk 579 crore initiative incorporates digital tools and Geographic Information System mapping for precision. The census will include 70 questions to assess income, expenditure, profitability, social and environmental factors, and ICT integration. It also introduces new elements, such as data on foreign nationals working in Bangladesh and e-commerce activities. Data collection will use centrally controlled tablets with secure transmission to the BBS server. Results are expected by January 2025. The BBS emphasizes the importance of nationwide cooperation to ensure the census’s success. Economic censuses in Bangladesh occur every decade, with the last conducted in 2013.
