The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched negotiations for a new Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Bangladesh at the Global Gateway Forum. As part of this initiative, the EU, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and Bangladesh signed agreements worth €400 million for renewable energy projects.
These projects aim to support Bangladesh’s sustainable green transition and help the country meet its climate mitigation targets. Additionally, five cooperation actions worth €70 million were launched, focusing on education, decent work, green construction, e-governance, and the prevention of gender-based violence.
This partnership underscores the EU’s commitment to helping Bangladesh address climate change, infrastructure gaps, and invest in renewable energy, education, and healthcare. The investments will boost access to energy, rural development, and potentially regional connectivity and resilience while contributing to the installation of approximately 750 MWp of new renewable energy capacity in Bangladesh.
