Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud has formally handed over the ‘Instrument of Accession’ in the Netherlands, officially joining the “Convention on Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation of Foreign Public Documents,” or Apostille Convention of 1961. This move means that documents certified by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will no longer need re-attestation in other countries, saving Bangladeshis approximately Tk 500-600 crore annually. The ceremony was opened by a welcome from the Netherlands’ Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary General. Mahmud emphasized the immediate benefits of this agreement for millions of Bangladeshis. Ambassador Riaz Hamidullah was also present.
