Bangladesh, Nepal, and India have signed a tripartite agreement to facilitate cross-border electricity trade, allowing Nepal to export surplus hydroelectricity to Bangladesh through Indian infrastructure from June 15 to November 15 each year. In the first phase, Nepal will export 40 MW of electricity at a rate of 6.4 cents per unit, generating around $9.2 million annually. The electricity will be transmitted via the 400KV Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur line in India. This marks Nepal’s first energy trade with a third country, expanding beyond its previous agreements solely with India.
