Industry: Development, NGO & Development

The UN peacekeeping chief has praised Bangladesh for its significant contribution to promoting women’s participation in peacekeeping missions. Speaking at the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial 2023 in Dhaka, Lacroix thanked Bangladesh for its strong commitment to advancing the cause of women in peacekeeping. Bangladesh, along with Canada and Uruguay, is co-hosting the meeting with a focus on women in peacekeeping.

Bangladesh is the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions, with 572 women among the 7,436 Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in 14 countries. The country has actively supported women’s empowerment and increased the number of women peacekeepers through initiatives like the all-female Formed Police Unit contingents. Bangladesh has also played a pioneering role in promoting women’s equal participation in peace and security through its adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and implementation of a National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security.
