The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced a 13% reduction in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for private operators in June 2023. The new retail price for a 12-kg cylinder will be Tk 1,074, down from Tk 1,235 in May. The BERC based its decision on the Saudi Aramco contract price (CP) for June 2023, considering propane and butane prices of $450 per tonne and $440 per tonne respectively. Fluctuations in foreign exchange rates and changes in value-added tax (VAT) were also taken into account. The BERC has been setting LPG prices for private sector operators on a monthly basis since April 2021. The reduced prices will apply to cylinders of various sizes, and the price of LPG for reticulated or centralized storage systems will be Tk 86.25 per kg. The price of auto-gas has also been reduced to Tk 50.09 per liter, including VAT.
