Bangladesh’s largest private-sector group, Beximco, has established the country’s largest solar power plant at 200 MW, aiming to address the current energy crisis. Located in Sundarganj, the plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Beximco invested around $300 million in the project and utilized the country’s first green Sukuk bond for financing. The project aligns with the government’s plans for future solar power expansion. The Teesta Solar plant, powered by 550,000 panels from Shanghai, is a significant step towards energy security in the face of dwindling foreign exchange reserves and escalating reliance on imported fuels in the northern region.
