The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the government to implement a directive on a 12% waste rate for making fabrics from yarn for deemed knitwear exporters. The directive aims to simplify the export-import process and enhance capacity for the country’s export-oriented knitwear-deemed exporters. BGMEA sent a letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) requesting the implementation of the revised wastage rate in fabric and clothes production for knit industrial establishments. The organization emphasizes that the absence of a directive from the revenue board is causing delays and financial losses for exporters. In July FY24, Bangladesh’s export earnings grew by 15.26% to $4.59 billion, with clothing items playing a significant role in this growth. Knitwear products earned $2.26 billion, up 22.24% from the previous year. Woven items also saw a rise of 11.54% to $1.51 billion.
