The Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) has increased interest rates on all types of housing loans by 1%, effective from January 1, 2024. The new rates range from 8% to 10%, up from the previous 7% to 9%. The decision was approved by BHBFC’s board in November 2023 and received final approval from the Financial Institutions Division on February 23, 2024. BHBFC offers 11 types of housing loans for up to 25 years, including Nagar Bondhu, Pallima, Housing Development, and Flat Registration loans. The interest rate for loans in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, as well as flat loans nationwide, has increased from 9% to 10%. In other areas, general housing loan rates have risen from 8% to 9%, while loans in peri-urban, upazila headquarters, and growth center areas have increased from 7% to 8%. This adjustment aims to align interest rates with market conditions.
