The Bhorma Land Port in Satkhira has seen a significant revenue increase in the 2023-24 fiscal year, collecting Tk 908 crore, up from Tk 632 crore in the previous fiscal year, marking a 43.67% growth. Despite a decrease of 654,893 metric tons in imported goods, the revenue rose by Tk 276 crore. The number of export trucks increased by 13.65%, from 21,627 to 24,580, while import trucks decreased by 18,326, totaling 63,902 compared to 82,228 the previous year. The port handled 2.35 million metric tons of imported goods, down from 3.01 million metric tons last year. Bhorma is a crucial port for Bangladesh’s trade, with daily imports from 200-250 Indian trucks and exports to India from 50-100 Bangladeshi trucks. Additionally, 800-1,000 passport holders travel daily between the two countries via this port. The port authority has taken measures to ensure accurate weight measurement of fruit products and to prevent harassment of Indian passport holders.
