The Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association (BIPPA) has urged the government to clear Tk 9,000 crore in overdue payments within 10 days to avoid disruptions to electricity supply during Ramadan. BIPPA highlighted the critical nature of the delayed payments, which have been overdue for over five months and more than three years in total. The association warned that the unpaid dues are affecting power generation, particularly in importing furnace oil, and causing significant financial losses due to taka devaluation and arbitrary liquidated damages imposed by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB). Despite financial constraints, the PDB is making phased payments with the support of the finance division to resolve the issue collaboratively.
