Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) disbursed loans totaling Tk 11,203 crore in the first 10 months of 2023 (July-October), benefiting 823,143 customers. Out of this, agricultural loans amounted to Tk 6,996 crore, benefiting 171,145 new farmers. The bank faced financial challenges due to factors such as providing agricultural loans at subsidized interest rates, waiving interest during natural calamities, and dealing with stuck debts in the garment sector. Despite these challenges, BKB has been focusing on improving efficiency by providing new manpower and ensuring timely loans to farmers. The bank aims to contribute to the country’s self-sufficiency in food production. The financial situation includes total deposits of Tk 42,729 crore and total loans of Tk 30,806 crore as of October,2023.
