The harvest and threshing of Boro paddy in Sherpur district’s five upazilas are nearly complete this season, bringing joy to local farmers who have achieved a high yield. According to the Deputy Director of the district Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Boro paddy was cultivated across 91,781 hectares of land in all five upazilas, with a production target of 662,200 tonnes of rice. The breakdown of Boro cultivation areas includes 24,017 hectares in Sherpur Sadar upazila, 23,095 hectares in Nalitabari, 12,405 hectares in Nakla, 17,666 hectares in Sreebordi, and 14,598 hectares in Jhenaigati upazila.
Favorable weather conditions have contributed to smooth harvesting for farmers, allowing them to bring in the crops without any difficulties. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, attributes the increased Boro paddy production to the adoption of technology, the availability of high-yielding seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as the provision of training programs for farmers. The successful implementation of these factors has resulted in enhanced productivity in Boro paddy cultivation in Sherpur district.
