Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) officials are urging an immediate review of the power purchase agreement with India’s Adani Group, citing severe financial pressure. The government pays $100 million monthly for electricity from Adani’s Jharkhand plant, which costs about $15 per unit—twice the average rate from other Indian sources. A review could potentially cut costs by up to 50%, saving $15 billion over 25 years. BPDB’s outstanding bills have reached Tk 45,000 crore due to high import costs. Experts stress the need for a permanent solution to address the costly agreement.
