Bangladesh Railway (BR) is conducting a study to relocate infrastructures from Kamalapur Rail Station for its multimodal transport hub (MmTH). The project, aiming to start construction by 2030, requires rebuilding the station and relocating facilities like the inland container depot. With World Bank support, the study will also address BR’s plan for an airport station MmTH. The study will assess infrastructures needing relocation and explore a new Dhaka-Chattogram railway corridor alignment. Kajima Corporation is recommended for the Kamalapur project, proposing a shift of the station building and reforms for increased train services. The MmTH will integrate various transport modes under a public-private partnership, enhancing connectivity and commercial facilities. It aims for completion by 2026, fostering economic growth and efficient transport systems.
