Brac Bank’s Agent Banking Channel has marked its fifth anniversary, achieving significant milestones in financial inclusion. The bank ranks first in loan disbursement, fourth in the number of agents and outlets, and sixth in the deposit portfolio within this period. A notable accomplishment is the disbursement of Tk12,500 crore SME loans, constituting 63% of the total loans via agent banking in the industry.
The channel has extended to all 64 districts, operating 1,040 outlets, with 79% in rural areas. Notably, 23% of the 358,000 account holders are women, supported by over 70 female entrepreneurs and 600 Agent Field Officers. The bank held its inaugural National Conference of Agent Banking, focusing on strategy, challenges, and expansion plans. Brac Bank aims to continue its mission of bringing the unbanked into the formal financial system, creating employment opportunities and fostering economic upliftment, especially in rural areas.
