BRAC Bank has partnered with Water.org, a global nonprofit organization, to facilitate access to safe water and sanitation in Bangladesh through affordable financing. This collaboration marks the first instance in the Bangladeshi banking industry to develop a dedicated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) financing portfolio. The project, titled “Empowering Bangladesh through Financing for Water and Sanitation,” will use the Water Supply and Sanitation Financing grant from Water.org.
The initiative aims to provide financial support to rural communities for safely managed water and sanitation products, collaborate with technology partners to introduce advanced solutions, and improve water and sanitation services’ quality. Additionally, the project will offer financial assistance to SMEs in the water and sanitation sector, fostering development and sustainability. BRAC Bank will create a separate portfolio under SME financing, working with partnered microfinance institutions and other SME financing channels to ensure comprehensive access to these essential facilities. The agreement was formalized at BRAC Bank’s head office in Dhaka.
