Protests are ongoing within rural electricity associations under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) due to the dismissal of 24 officials and employee demands. This unrest has resulted in severe load shedding and blackouts nationwide.
Employees held a press conference demanding the withdrawal of lawsuits, reinstatement of dismissed workers, and better accountability. The Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has formed a committee to address the conflict, which has caused power supply disruptions in 60 associations. Additionally, staff at the North-West Power Generation Company (NWPGCL) have also begun protests over overdue payments and other demands, complicating the situation further. The NWPGCL Managing Director has acknowledged the demands but emphasized that board-level decisions are needed for resolutions while ensuring continuous power supply.
