The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has faced significant delays in completing an industrial estate development project in Sirajganj over the past 13 years. Despite receiving six deadline extensions, the project remains unfinished, leading to both time wastage and nearly doubling the initial estimated cost.
The project, initiated in 2010 on 400 acres of land, was originally budgeted at Tk 3.79 billion and was expected to be completed by June 2014. However, it has since seen multiple revisions, with the latest extension pushing the completion date to June 2024. Delays in land acquisition and slow contractor progress have hindered the project’s advancement, with only 84% of the work completed thus far. While there is concern over the misuse of time and public funds, the government is committed to seeing it through, aiming to create jobs and develop industrial infrastructure in the region.
