The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has initiated the first-ever comprehensive audit of Teletalk, the state-owned telecom company, following a recent policy decision. Teletalk plays a crucial role in providing mobile and data services to a significant portion of the population.
The audit, aimed at assessing the company’s operations, financial health, and regulatory compliance, is a significant step by BTRC. The commissioner confirmed the initiation, stating that files for the audit have already been issued. Notably, while BTRC has previously audited private operators like Grameenphone, Robi, and Banglalink, this marks the first formal audit of the government telecom operator Teletalk.
The regulatory body has received audit objections totaling over BDT 14 thousand crore from private operators, with a portion already collected and the rest under ongoing collection processes.
