BTRC Releases Draft Guideline for .bd and .bangla Domains

The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has launched the BASIS America Desk to enhance business collaborations between Bangladeshi ICT firms and their American counterparts. The .bd country code top-level domain (ccTLD) in Bangladesh has struggled to gain popularity despite crossing one million registered domain names. Only 41,000 websites use .bd in their addresses, far fewer than in other countries like Sri Lanka and India. One major reason is that .bd requires a generic top-level domain (gTLD) like .com or .net before it, which many website owners find less attractive.

During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to China, Billion 10 Communications Limited and EB Solutions Limited signed six agreements, securing a total investment of US$280 million for Bangladesh. These agreements focus on sectors like electric vehicles (EV) and renewable energy, aiming to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Bangladesh will experience a 12-hour Internet disruption due to submarine cable maintenance. These internet outages resulted from scheduled repairs on Singapore's SEA-ME-WE 4 underwater cable system. It is a 12-hour maintenance, which will last from 6:01 AM to 6:00 PM and affect services that connect Cox's Bazar to Singapore via this cable.
