The Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is finalizing guidelines for telecom infrastructure sharing to reduce duplicate infrastructure and better utilize existing networks. The draft guidelines, aim to lower operator costs, improve economies of scale, reduce telecom equipment imports, and save foreign currency. Stakeholders can comment on the draft until June 2.
The guidelines focus on horizontal sharing within the same category of license holders, though future directives may allow sharing between different categories. Operators must share infrastructure fairly, transparently, non-discriminatorily, and on a “first come, first serve” basis. Previously signed agreements must be revised to comply with these guidelines within 90 days of their publication and submitted to the commission within 15 days of signing.
