In the wake of soaring fish prices, chicken gizzards and liver have become a preferred choice for consumers facing economic challenges. The cost of chicken gizzards has surged from Tk 120 to Tk 160 per kilogram over the past three months. Broiler chicken is now priced at Tk 180 per kilogram, while Sonali chicken is selling between Tk 300 and Tk 330 per kilogram.
The market witnesses a notable absence of fish priced below Tk 220 per kilogram, with pangas and tilapia surpassing Tk 220 from the earlier rate of Tk 1.5 per kilogram. Small fish are now being retailed at Tk 600 to Tk 1,000. The demand surge for chicken gizzards and liver is attributed to their cost-effectiveness compared to other protein sources. The increased demand has led to a rise in their prices, creating a shift in consumer preference.
