During the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival, the price of cattle is expected to rise by more than 10 percent, despite the availability of a stock of 12.5 million cattle for sale in the country. This information was revealed by Fisheries and Livestock Secretary during her visit to a cattle farm. It was mentioned that local farmers and farms are well-prepared with approximately 12.5 million sacrificial animals, an increase from 12.1 million in 2022. He assured that there would be no need to import animals and emphasized increased surveillance in border areas to prevent cattle smuggling and protect local farmers.
To address any issues faced by farmers and buyers, there is the National Emergency Service hotline number-999. The Department of Livestock Services has also reduced the price of animal feed to some extent. In response to the request for hassle-free movement of purchased animals, the ministry stated that it would issue a gazette if necessary. The Bangladesh Dairy Farmers Association (BDFA) expressed concerns over rising feed prices and urged the government to ensure a smooth process for acquiring animals from farms. BDFA President emphasized the need for assurance from the government to facilitate hassle-free transactions. The owner of Sadeeq Agro aimed to sell 1900 cows and buffaloes, as well as 600 goats and sheep, this year. He mentioned that animals weighing less than 400 kg could be purchased at Tk 500 per kg, with free delivery.
