The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded a feasibility study grant to CdNet Communications Ltd (CdNet), a Bangladeshi telecom company, for the development of the Bangladesh International Submarine Cable (Bagha-1). This project aims to expand reliable internet connectivity throughout Bangladesh.
The subsea cable, Bagha-1, is expected to significantly increase bandwidth and enhance internet quality in both urban and rural areas of Bangladesh. Florida-based APTelecom LLC has been selected by CdNet to conduct the feasibility study. This study will help CdNet assess the best strategic options for deploying a trusted subsea cable system in the country.
The agreement between USTDA and CdNet was signed at the sixth Indo-Pacific Business Forum held in Manila, Philippines. Enoh T Ebong, the director of USTDA, highlighted that the agency is actively building a portfolio of subsea cable projects across the Indo-Pacific region with partners like CdNet, aiming to expand broadband capacity through reliable subsea fibre optic cable systems.
