The United Nations’ Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated $8 million to aid nearly a million Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar district and Bhasan Char Island. This funding is part of CERF’s initiative to support underfunded humanitarian operations across 14 countries worldwide.
In Bangladesh, the allocation will assist priority programs for refugees and host communities who lack alternative support sources. Humanitarian agencies have requested $876 million to aid 1.47 million people, including Rohingya refugees and local Bangladeshis. However, as of September 6, only 30.6% of this appeal has been funded.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of this allocation due to the funding shortfall in the humanitarian support for Rohingya refugees, highlighting their continued reliance on international community assistance.
