The Chandpur 150 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant resumed production early this month, after being shut down for more than a month due to an oil leakage in its bearings. The plant restarted with 50 MW output from one of its 100 MW units amid the ongoing gas crisis, confirmed the Superintending Engineer to UNB yesterday afternoon.
The plant initially came back into production on March 10, 2024, following a long 14-month closure that began in December 2022 for regular testing. Since March, the 100 MW capacity unit has been supplying 50 MW. However, the other 50 MW unit has not yet been operational, as reported by the engineer.
Production was halted again on April 5 due to a fire caused by an oil leakage in the generator bearing. After a month and eight days of repairs, power generation has resumed, though the gas crisis currently limits production to 50 MW from the 100 MW unit. If the gas supply improves, the plant aims to increase production to the full 100 MW capacity.
