Continuous heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging and severe flooding in Chattogram and its upazilas, except Fatikchhari, resulting in approximately 50,000 hectares of submerged agricultural land and an estimated financial loss of Tk 31,108 crore. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) reports that out of the Chattogram agricultural region’s total 1,89,100 hectares of cultivated land, 16% in Chattogram district, 5% in Cox’s Bazar, 10% in Feni, and 7% in Lakshmipur have been affected. 1,91,797 farmers have lost 1,12,287 tonnes of crops. The rice crop suffered substantial damage, with 7,898 hectares flooded and 15,308 tonnes of Aush paddy worth Tk 3,000 crore destroyed. Transplanted Aman paddy on 2,09,193 hectares also faced significant losses, with 26,500 tonnes of T Aman paddy worth Tk 8,000 crore lost. Summer and autumn vegetable crops were also severely impacted. The DAE will now initiate post-flood activities to address the situation.
