Container handling at Chattogram Port increased by 5.21% in February 2025 compared to February 2024, reaching 228,184 TEUs. This rise was driven by increased imports, exports, and empty container movement. Import cargo handling grew by 3.05%, while export cargo handling increased by 7.12%. However, empty import and export container handling declined by 15.52% compared to January 2025. January saw higher activity, with 263,614 TEUs handled, reflecting a 12.75% increase in imports and a 13.84% rise in exports from January 2024. The Chittagong Port Authority attributes this growth to improving global conditions, increased trade before Ramadan, and operational expansions like the Patenga Container Terminal. Officials expect continued growth in 2025 through efficiency improvements and infrastructure upgrades at key terminals. The port’s annual container handling typically grows by 5-10% under stable conditions, and recent initiatives aim to sustain this trend.
