Chevron Workers Demand Fair Share of Profits and Job Security

Industry: Energy & Power, Oil & Petroleum
Company: Chevron
Company Intelligence Tag: Business Insights

Workers, both terminated and existing, from the US oil company Chevron Bangladesh, have come together to demand their rightful dividend share and permanent job status. They expressed their demands during a press conference held at Dhaka Reports Unity in the capital. A former employee of Chevron Bangladesh highlighted the lack of job security and related benefits for workers who have dedicated 12 to 18 years of service. He emphasized that Chevron authorities have failed to provide permanent appointment letters, a requirement under the Labor Act.

Approximately 400 workers filed individual cases with the Labor Court between 2015 and 2022, but the cases remain unresolved. The workers also alleged that Chevron terminated 130 employees in violation of labor laws, attributing their suffering to a syndicate that embezzled substantial funds through nepotistic contracting practices.
