The Sivia-China Harbor-Orchard Consortium from China has presented a proposal to the Chittagong City Corporation (CHSIC) to generate 30-40 MW of electricity through modern waste management. The consortium, with experience in building 41 similar power plants in China, has requested 35 acres of land from CHSIC for the project. The electricity generated from the project will be sold commercially. Local government department approval has been obtained for the initiative. The meeting, attended by Chittagong City Mayor officials from CHSIC, representatives from the consortium, and a professor from Chittagong University of Science and Technology, discussed the project’s implementation. If approved, the waste-to-energy project will contribute to sustainable energy generation in Chittagong and potentially open avenues for further collaborations between China and Bangladesh in the renewable energy sector.
