The “Expansion and Strengthening of Power System Network” project is set to bring a radical change to Dhaka city and Narayanganj’s power system, forming the backbone of a digital Dhaka. Over 70% of the $1.65 billion project, the largest power cooperation initiative between Bangladesh and China, has been completed, with the rest scheduled for delivery to Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited by the end of 2024. The project includes the establishment of 44 substations, with overhead cables in Hatirjheel Lake and the Dhanmondi residential area being laid underground. This move is expected to modernize and digitize Dhaka’s power distribution network, playing a crucial role in Bangladesh’s social and economic development.
