Chinese technology has established a dominant presence in Bangladesh’s solar sector, capturing a significant 60% market share. Data from the state-owned IDCOL reveals that China leads the solar home system market in Bangladesh, followed by Canada, Germany, and India. Over 4.5 million operational solar home systems are powered by Chinese solutions, while Chinese technology features prominently in the construction of solar parks and utility-scale solar power plants across the country.
The total electricity generated from solar energy in Bangladesh stands at 949.65 MW as of June 2023. Market insiders emphasize the competitive pricing of Chinese solar panels and inverters compared to European counterparts, with a price difference of 30-35% and 10-12% respectively. Despite China’s current dominance, experts anticipate future joint-venture projects and the need for stringent monitoring and adherence to quality standards to sustain and diversify the solar technology market in Bangladesh.
