City Group is investing over Tk2,000 crore to establish the country’s largest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) plant in the Hoshendi Economic Zone in Gajaria, Munshiganj. This move comes as LPG operators face challenges due to mounting loan obligations and declining sales. City Group’s new plant will have a storage capacity exceeding 16,000 tonnes, set to increase to over 20,000 tonnes upon the acquisition of two more plants in Mongla and Chattogram.
With natural gas supplies dwindling, the demand for LPG is expected to surge in Bangladesh, where it is used in various applications, including industrial, automotive, and power generation. The company aims to enter the market in the first quarter of the upcoming year, marketing its LPG products under the brand “Teer.” The Bangladesh LPG market has experienced significant growth over the past decade, with demand projected to reach 30 lakh tonnes by 2030.
